ilha not so grande

postcard perfect beaches never get boring as long as the sun is shining, and, luckily, it did this last few days on ilha grande. this small island an hour or so off the coast south of rio has no cars, an increasing number of hostels and guesthouses and enough absolutely perfect beaches to be a real travel magnet. when it comes to beaches imagination and originality are not really that important; clean, fine white sand and deep blue sea might be cliches but oh how familiarity fails to dull beauty. activity was at a minimum. breakfast at the hostel and then a day lazing on the beach reading, splashing around in the atlantic and flicking sand out of places it should never have got to. lazy, complacent bliss.
back in rio now for the final week. the spectre of the office sits heavy on my shoulder but there are things to be seen and done before weighty reality bears down interminably.
